Update: Plan Your Entire Hole from Tee to Green
MyStrategy has recently been enhanced to allow players to plan their second shot, moving beyond the tee to provide a complete roadmap for every hole.
Since its launch, MyStrategy has changed how golfers prepare for their rounds. We’ve taken that preparation to the next level with a major enhancement to the Shot Scope mobile app and web dashboard. Players can now create an even more personalized strategy for any course around the world, allowing them to play their best regardless of the venue.
Golfers should not confuse aerial hole maps with MyStrategy; while both provide an aerial view, the strategy builder allows for true data-driven preparation. MyStrategy uses your last 30 shots with each club, building a picture of your real distances and tendencies.
The Tee Shot: Finding the Fairway
To start building your strategy, select your chosen course and tee box. On the left-hand side of the screen, players can see specific hole stats based on how other Shot Scope users in their handicap bracket perform on the hole.
- Select Your Club: Choose your club to see detailed statistics, including shots to finish and a distance breakdown.
- Visualize Your Dispersion: Once a club is chosen, players see a dispersion cone based on player averages.
- Account for Your “Miss”: Toggle on the Dispersion Tendency feature to receive a cone that allows for your natural miss and adjust your aim point accordingly.
- Shots Plotted: Turn on this feature to see a visual representation of where your previous shots have actually landed.
The Approach Shot: Targeting the Green
Strategy doesn’t end in the fairway. The latest update allows you to seamlessly plan your second shot, giving you a complete roadmap from tee to green.
- Select Your Approach Club: Choose the club you intend to use for your second shot, such as an 8-iron.
- Target the Green: Drag the second shot target icon to your intended landing spot, whether you are attacking the pin or playing to a safer area.
- The Start Position Slider: Use the slider on the left to move your “Start Position”. This simulates hitting your approach from the left or right side of your tee shot dispersion, giving you a realistic look at how the angle and distance to the pin change
- Analyze the Green Complex: Just like the tee shot, you will see your personalized dispersion cone for your approach club, helping you account for greenside bunkers or water hazards.
- The “Perfect Leave”: Planning the second shot helps you decide if your chosen tee shot leaves you a yardage you are comfortable with or if you need to adjust your club choice off the tee.
Pro Tip:
Find Your “Safe Miss” with Data > As you move the Start Position Slider, keep an eye on the Shots to Finish and Strokes Gained numbers. If sliding to the right causes your “Shots to Finish” to jump from 2.0 to 2.4, the data is telling you that the right side of the fairway is a “danger zone”. Use this to refine your tee shot aim—aim further left to ensure even your “miss” keeps you in a high-probability scoring position.
Mastering the Elements: Wind & Elevation
Take on the elements – account for wind and elevation
Players can toggle wind on or off, and factor in elevation changes. This displays as a ‘plays like’ distance giving golfers a more accurate yardage to work with.
This removes the guesswork, allowing players to account for varying wind strengths and examine how it will impact their distances. With wind turned on, the dispersion cone shown in blue dynamically adjusts to reflect the wind’s effect on your shot. This will change the size and width of your dispersion cone allowing you to refine your aim point.
If you have a big tournament at the weekend, consult your preferred weather provider and use their wind estimates to plan ahead.
MyStrategy has a compass that allows players to easily select the wind direction and adjust its strength.
Please Note: Wind distances are based on a typical ball flight and mathematical algorithm that calculates the impact of wind. We all have a rough idea that on certain holes we need to take an extra club or less club due to elevation changes, but wouldn’t it be nice to know exactly how much more, or less, distance the shot played?
