Nelly Korda Women’s US Open Winner 2024?

Nelly Korda Women’s US Open Winner 2024?

29 May 2024

Nelly Korda is in the best form of her career ahead of the Women’s US Open, could she be adding to her Major tally again this year and raise the Harton S. Semple Trophy?

Korda has won six of her last seven starts – 6 wins in 7 starts! In the modern game of golf with almost any player being capable of winning on any given week this is truly remarkable.

From the last seven starts, the tournament that Korda did not win, T7, Rose Zhang claimed top spot. Rose joined the LPGA Tour last year… still very much new to the Tour and highlighting the quality of competition regardless of experience.

Here we have Korda’s Wins:

TournamentFinal ScoreWinning Margin
LPGA Drive On Championship-11PO vs Lydia Ko
FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship-9PO vs Ryann O’Toole
Ford Championship presented by KCC-202
T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards-84&3 vs Leona Maguire
The Chevron Championship-132
Mizuho Americas Open-141

What stands out to you in the above table? To me, aside from the continued great golf, is the gritty finishes that started off this incredible run.

Winning back-to-back tournaments in playoffs kicked off this incredible run before going on to win by two strokes at the Ford Champioinship.

Korda followed this up by beating Leona Maguire 4&3, Maguire was a strong competitor in the 2023 European Solheim Cup Team – undefeated at Finca Cortesin and contributing to the Cup’s retention over Team USA.

Tackling one of Team Europe’s MVPs with a strong margin of victory is no mean feet!

Major success at The Chevron Championship

Just weeks after her T-Mobile Match Play victory, Korda would go on to win her second Major title at The Chevron Championship with a scoring average of 68.75 for the week.

Having won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in 2021, a win this week would see Korda well on her way to the Grand Slam – there are five Majors in women’s golf but with form like this you never know!

Lastly, Korda headed to the Mizuho Americas Open and won once again, carding an impressive 65 on day three.

So those are the results, what are the stats?

Well here are some of the stats that have definitely helped!

Stats from the LPGA Tour

Before we talk about all the number one ranked stats, the driving ones at face value may not seem as impressive. However, being in the Top 25 for distance at the highest level of female golf makes her one of the best in game.

Although Korda is 71st in Driving Accuracy, we should add that she is still averaging 74% fairways hit… PGA Tour average for the season to date is 62%. So its not like Korda is wild off the tee by any means.

Combine the incredible accuracy with being one of the longer hitters on Tour and we can see how Korda hits 76% of greens.

In the Race to CME Globe rankings, the season long event like the FedEx Cup, Korda is currently 1,878 points ahead of second place Hannah Green.

For the 2023 season, Lilia Vu took top spot in the Race to CME Globe with 3,161.968 points from 19 events. Currently, through 8 events, Korda has 3,285.00 points…

Heading into the Women’s US Open

Lancaster Country Club, having previously hosted the tournament in 2015, will be hosting the Women’s US Open once again this week.

In 2015, it was In Gee Chun that took top spot with a score of -8 to par – her first career start at the championship and aged just 20yrs old (the fourth youngest winner)

Last year it was Allisen Corpuz raising the Harton S. Semple Trophy with a score -9 to par – 2023 saw a record number of entries with 2,107 competitors.

A tough track that promises to deliver a high quality tournament, could Lancaster Country Club be the venue where Nelly Korda wins Major number three? Find out this weekend!
