MacIntyre Wins the Genesis Scottish Open

14 July 2024

Well what can we say?!

After quarter of a century, Scotland has a home winner of the Scottish Open, after Bob MacIntyre birdied the 72nd hole to claim a 1 shot victory at the Renaissance Club.

Trailing 14-time PGA Tour winner and 2013 Masters Champion, Adam Scott by 3 shots, MacIntyre eagled the 16th hole, followed by par at 17 to leave himself a chance at the 18th.

He duly delivered, with a sensational putt – followed by the biggest roar of the week – putting to bed the disappointment of last year’s runner-up place.

Both MacIntyre and Ludvig Aberg struggled on the front 9, as Scott started to progress to the top of the leaderboard, and for a while looked as though he’d won on Tour for the first time in over four years.

Collin Morikawa threatened as well before his chances faded, whilst defending champion Rory McIlroy struggled to make the most of his opportunities, but a top 5 finish, see’s him head to Royal Troon with his game in good shape, after the disappointment of the US Open last month.

But the day belongs to MacIntyre, who now jumps to World Number 16, and with that secures the title he has expressed so openly in the past that we wanted more than any other.

Speaking on the 18th green after securing the title he said:

“We will celebrate this, me and my family will celebrate this hard, and we’ll pitch up at the Open when we pitch up”.

And who could argue with that? The sheer elation, passion and euphoria as he sank the putt, from not only Bob, but the thousands of fans around the green will live long in the memory for every Scottish golf fan.

Next up, the majority of the field will head to Royal Troon for practice over the coming days before the 152nd Open gets underway at Royal Troon this coming Thursday.
