Shot Scope Player Picks – The Masters

Shot Scope Player Picks – The Masters

10 April 2024

With The Masters just around the corner, the office have been talking and naturally we have been discussing who we think will win this year.

Interestingly, no one has tipped Jon Rahm to go back-to-back, something that has only been done three times as we discovered in our History of the Green Jacket blog – of course, Tiger is one of those people.

We take a closer look at Tiger’s wins over the years in this blog.

Ahead of this year’s tournament here are the Shot Scope staff player picks:

Jen – Marketing Team

Favourite – Scottie Scheffler – He’s dominating at the moment. Historically plays well at the time of the year. He can shape it both ways which is a great asset to have. Hard to see past him with his recent form. He might be an obvious pick but surely that means he’ll win?

Outsider – Min Woo Lee – Climbing up the rankings recently. I think he is going to be the next big thing so what better way to start than by winning The Masters… Let him cook!

Kelvin – Commercial Team

Favourite – Viktor Hovland – Love his game and although the course favours a drawer of the ball, there is just something about Viky Hov’s fade. He has performed well of recent with his Ryder Cup performance and winning the FedEx last season, the game is there and he is due a big win.

Outsider – Tom Kim  – Big fan of his game and personality. His performance at The Open Championship last year is the definition of grit. Also, it’s good to see someone from East Asia giving the region some representation on Tour – routing for you Tom.

Matt – eCommerce Team

Favourite: Wyndham Clark – On a hot streak at the moment, has been second back to back in recent events and very nearly took Scottie to a playoff at The Players. Can hit shots that very few on Tour can. His Full Swing episode was probably my favourite too.

Outsider: Jake Knapp – Tempo town! A very nice swing, one I wish to replicate one day! Rookie luck too?

Kieran – Marketing Team

Favourite: Will Zalatoris – Previous runner up, back off an injury but has found new form with his putting and is always solid tee to green.

Outsider: Thorbjorn Olesen – Has finished in the top 5 here previously and is back playing some of his best golf with two wins in two years as well multiple top 5s.

Ryan – Marketing Team

Favourite – Will Zalatoris – Like his game, seems to have his putting figured out and has done very well here in the past. Finished 2nd on his debut and T6 in his second appearance, this will be his third visit to Augusta, third time lucky comes to mind.

Outsider – Sungjae Im + Tiger Woods – You may be asking yourself how is this the only one with three picks. When you write the piece, you can make your own rules!

Sungjae has done well here before, steady player, swing is somewhat odd but doesnt seem to do too much wrong. Finished T2 on his debut, fifth appearance this year so shouldnt have any nerves.

Whenever Tiger tees it up, I’m routing for him to win, 2019 was sensational, more of the same please.

Steven – Sales Team

Favourite – Joaquin Niemann – Has won on LIV Tour twice this season and winning in Australia which got him to the Masters. Has also won at Riviera in the past which has been said to be similar to Augusta. Odds have tumbled in recent weeks and this is for a reason.

Outsider – Tiger Woods – If they let him use a golf buggy he wins by 10.

David – eCommerce Team

Favourite – Ludvig AbergWhy not? First visit to Augusta but nothing seems to phase this guy, Ryder Cup winner, made all 7 cuts this year, 3 top 10s including 8th place at Sawgrass. Have you read our blog about Aberg’s career so far?

Outsider – Brian HarmanOpen champion last year, made 7 of 8 cuts this year so far, including 2 top 10 finishes, T2 at the Players and hits it nicely after many many waggles.

Jamie – Support Team

Favourite – Joaquin Niemann – My heart says McIlroy but my back pocket has a betting slip with Niemann on it.

Outsider – Adrian Meronk – In fine form and has a point to prove. He isn’t scared to go heavily into the red. 150/1 looks like good value. E/W bet could be a good investment.

Joanne – Support Team

Favourite – Rory McIlroy – 10th time the charm to complete the Grand Slam? I think so! 20 top 10’s in majors yep 20 since last major success so got to be his time right?! Come on Rors!

Outsider – Tommy Fleetwood – Doesn’t win as much as he should but fancy him and his luscious locks to be in a green jacket by the end of the week. Too many good performances and finishes in majors to not to have won one yet, have a feeling it’s Tommy’s time!

Neil – Sales Team

Favourite – Shane Lowry – Has had a solid start to the year (3 top 10’s in 7 events globally) and is 7th Strokes Gained Total and 3rd Strokes Gained approach for this season. He also has a good record at Augusta (T-3 in 2022 and 3 other top-20 finishes in the past 4 editions) and is coming in under the radar.

Just needs a solid putting week and should have a great chance of winning his first Green Jacket.

Outsider – Si Woo Kim – Made the cut in all 10 events he has played this season, with 4 top 20’s included. In the top 30 for Strokes Gained Total, Off the Tee, and Approach to Green. Has made the cut in 6 of 7 appearances at The Masters, including two top 20’s.

A bit like Lowry, if he can get the putter going, he is in with a shout come Sunday evening.

There you have it, a list of our picks, someone has to get it right, right? Probably not but we cant wait to tune in.
