Genesis Scottish Open Preview

10 July 2024

We are now only hours away until the highly anticipated Genesis Scottish Open returns to the Renaissance Club, North Berwick.

A lot has happened in the 12 months since Rory McIlroy’s victory, snatching victory from Oban’s Bob MacIntyre at the 72nd hole, where both golfers played approach shots that may never be bettered under the conditions and circumstances.

In that time, Bob MacIntyre has won on the PGA Tour for the first time, becoming Canadian Open Champion with his dad Dougie on the bag, and was part of the winning Ryder Cup team in Rome.

McIlroy was also part of that European winning team and has so far won the Zurich Classic and Wells Fargo in 2024, as well as finishing runner-up at the US Open in June.

We can’t go without mentioning another Ryder Cup winner in Ludvig Aberg, a real favourite amongst the Shot Scope staff. His rise to World No.4 in just under 12 months has been sensational, and the young Swede who flew under the radar in Scotland last summer, will certainly have plenty of fans out there on the links hoping he can pick up a victory.

The Scottish Open once again acts as the perfect warm-up to the Open Championship so you can expect to see the likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick, Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele, Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, Luke Donald, Hideki Matsuyama, Vitkor Hovland, Tom Kim and Justin Thomas tee it up at the Renaissance Club this year.

The golf course itself will once again provide a stern links golf test, with the wind very much playing a part, particularly on the back 9 of the golf course.

A Look At The Scottish Open Course

The Renaissance Club, now hosting it’s 6th Scottish Open, is traditionally a private members golf course. A par-71 at over 6,600 yards, it’s not the longest course the professional’s will play on Tour, but with the ever changing weather conditions, and wind, we have seen winning scores of -22, -11, -18, -7 and -15.

The course is set up differently from the traditional hole layout as played by the members, this was changed after the first playing in 2019.
